Herman Smorenburg

The work of Smorenburg can be placed under the heading of the fantastic realism, magic realism, visionary art, but also the symbolism or surrealism. The paintings are images of a spiritual journey, in a sense, the icons that link to mystery, stillness and wonder. He works with the classic technique of laminated glazing on a monochrome underpainting, a traditional and very time consuming process. Therefore Smorenburg produces only a few paintings per year.
